In This Issue:   A Prayer for Nurses

If you were to express to God the weariness, sorrow, or questions you’ve been asking about nursing and your calling to this work, what might God say to you? A Prayer for Nurses on the NCF blog was written for you, and maybe for your colleagues, too.

National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing

The editorial, Uncovering Racial Bias, in the July/September issue of JCN relays information about the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing and their foundational report discussing the history of racism, and contemporary policy, education, practice, and research contexts of racism in nursing. On June 4, the Commission released its report, Racism in Nursing, which is available here. NCF encourages you to explore this eye-opening report. We will discuss the report at the July 21 Journal Club.

July 21 Journal Club: Bridging the Racial Divide

Join colleagues and author Tajuane Dockery to discuss her JCN article, Bridging the Racial Divide: Nurses Leading by Christ’s Example. Journal Club registration will be available in the next member eNewsletter. 1.5 NCPD hours will be awarded to NCF members who participate. Be sure to read this important article in the July/September JCN.

Seeing God at Work on Campus

Twice a year we ask NCF student groups to fill out a survey giving details about their chapter. While the metrics are important to assess group health and plan for the future, one question we love is, How have you seen God at work in you and in your chapter this past year? Answers this Spring reveal a shift from a time of frustration to recognizing dependence on God. Read the comments from chapter leaders to find God sightings that we think will bring you hope, encouragement, and even a smile!

"People found NCF to be a place to find community and connect their workplace calling with God's work in the world. It was very good to see people make these connections."
"I've seen God at work through the perseverance of the NCF leaders. Despite the pandemic, tiredness, and lack of expected results, they persevered until the very end."
"God has taught us that seeing fruit from planting seeds can take awhile, and that he measures faithfulness more than fruit. I have seen God bring Christian healthcare workers together and form encouraging connections out of nowhere. I have seen healthcare workers become more bold and unashamed of the gospel. I have seen the Lord use one-on-one conversations to be more effective and impactful than large groups - people are craving heart-to-heart relationships and connections."
"I have seen God help me be a leader in my group and pour into others the best that I can."
"The Blessing of the Hands ceremony for our graduating seniors has been a new tradition that we have seen God move in."
"What an amazing blessing to have found such an easy way to share Jesus (through NCF) with other nursing students!"
"This year we've had several major prayer requests answered regarding families, which has been so valuable for the students' walk in trusting God."

Students and faculty have spiritually grown in ways they may not have expected! There is gratitude for growth and God’s faithfulness in rising up new chapter leadership. There is an appreciation for an increase in community, sharing, and vulnerability that comes from weathering a storm together. The relationships they are building with God, each other, and through all that nursing school can throw at them strengthens each one. As students prepare for the next semester or graduate they can be encouraged by knowing a faithful and active God–and appreciate the value of Christian nursing community!

Setting Boundaries

Save the Date! Join NCF on August 29 at 7 pm Central for our next Tabletop Discussion, Setting Boundaries: Navigating the Complexities of the Nursing Profession. Further information and registration will be available June 20th and in future Charting the Way eNewsletters.

Mentoring Opportunities

NCF Student and Professional Ministries are kicking off our mentorship pilot program this summer. Are you interested in being a mentor? Or are you a new grad who would like to be mentored? Check out NCF’s Mentorship page to learn more and to sign up.

This is a special opportunity to walk alongside a small group of recent graduates as they continue integrating faith and nursing. Share your experiences, pray with them, and provide a space for them to be encouraged in their faith and nursing practice, equipped through mentoring and spiritual care, and empowered to share their faith with those around them.
