Space NeedleOn most postcards of Seattle you’ll see the Space Needle, built for the 1962 World’s Fair. I’ve been up high in the Space Needle several times, and people on the ground below look quite small and far away! On days when the fog and mist are dense around the observation deck, you can feel like you’re in the clouds -- far, far above life below.

NewbornI grew up with puppies, ponies, ducklings, chicks, kitties, and bunnies in our large backyard. I saw new babies of every kind.  Five years ago I got to see my second grandson just after he was born, and I couldn’t keep the tears from flowing. Birth of any kind is an amazing gift from God. But it’s ironic that God wasn’t born or created -- he is self-existent!

newbornAfter my first year of college I worked as a nursing assistant on a postpartum unit. I had a two-week orientation and then off I went to help the new mothers. I’m not sure how much help I was at first because I had much to learn.

Renee's Path

I love my job as the director of NCF Student Ministries, but last spring I was approaching burn-out. It had been a great year of ministry with nursing students, but I knew I needed a break. My sabbatical in May arrived just in time!

sleepyIt’s just the beginning of the school year, but the Lord has been talking to me about rest. I’m discovering how to be refreshed by him.

What's Vital? If you’re looking for Bible studies relevant to nursing, try What's Vital? Following Jesus in Nursing. The topics integrate faith, nursing and spiritual care.

the seed within usLast month I wrote that God is near to everyone, everything and everywhere; he is omnipresent. But there is an added dimension to the “everywhereness” of God.  He not only contains everything, he also penetrates everything to its deepest core. God is immanent.

Years ago my daughter had a computer game called “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?”  It tested our knowledge of geography, the locations of natural and man-made wonders, and a lot of world trivia. We loved it, but we didn’t get many answers right!

CompassionThere is a lot of talk in my country about compassion, particularly in relation to nursing – and why people today are seeing a lack of compassion in the profession.
