Can I make a difference?Making a Difference

When the NCF leadership team at Wichita State University (KS) met to plan their meetings for the year, they were feeling overwhelmed by their busy schedules and seemed short on ideas. So they started by praying and asking God to come, to speak, to work . . .

"Our prayers started with, "Help, God, we're overwhelmed!" and moved into "How do you want us to be reaching out?" said Kathy Schoonover Shoffner, NCF staff. "We asked God to bring non-Christians into our group and prayed for 1 or 2, no . . . 10 students to meet Jesus this semester!"

Soon a plan unfolded unexpectedly before them as they discussed having a student or a few faculty members share their summer missions experiences at the September meeting. They were proposing titles when suddenly someone suggested the title, "Can I make a difference?" Then someone else said, "That could be our ...read more »

"My prayer for all of you is that you, too, will experience the truth that God loves you regardless of your accomplishments in the world's eyes. Academia is not always a healthy place for the soul with its lies about status and intelligence and power. May you know the depth of God's love for you as you offer your gifts and abilities for holy purposes." --Sharon Gartland is the former national director for InterVarsity's Women in the Academy & Professions.

Chart Your Chapter

Chart Your ChapterWe encourage you to start keeping track of how many people are coming to your NCF activities, using a Chart your Chapter form. Designate one person to be responsible for recording this information. The chart can be modified to include other data you may want to collect.

Recording basic data now will help you complete the NCF Annual Survey next spring. This information on each group helps us serve all of our NCF chapters more effectively. More importantly, your record of each meeting is an important way for you to collect data on your group and track changes from year to year. As you pray for your friends and invite them into your NCF ministry on campus, trust God for growth in your group and for your witness to Jesus in your school of nursing.

Hope in Nursing School

HopeIf you're stressed out by the first exams of the semester, here is Encouragement for Nursing Students, a new blog addressing study skills, taking tests and other aspects of life as a nursing student. It's written by Lori Greer, a former NCF faculty advisor at University of Texas at Tyler Longview. She provides helpful tips, insights and relevant Bible verses to keep nursing students on track academically and spiritually.
