Our Infinite God

Last month I asked the question, “What do you know to be true about God that helps you trust Him to lead you through life?” I wrote about Depending on God as an introduction to a series of messages I will share in the months ahead based on A.W. Tozer’s book, “The Attributes of God” (vol. 1).

This month I am challenged by God’s attribute of infinitude. Tozer writes, “God knows no limits, no bounds, no end. He is without boundaries. All that God is, He is without bounds or limits.”

Tozer claims that when we realize that “God is all that we would have and can desire,” then our hidden life begins. The significance of God’s infinitude only begins to sink in to our finite minds when we realize that God is all that we need for life!

“Christianity is a gateway into God. And then when you get into God, ‘with Christ in God,’ then you’re on a journey into infinity, into infinitude,” Tozer writes. “There is no limit and no place to stop. There isn’t just one work of grace, or a second work or a third work, and then that’s it. There are numberless experiences and spiritual epochs and crises that can take place in your life while you are journeying out into the heart of God in Christ. God is infinite!”

Tozer states that we misuse terms such as “boundless”, “unlimited”, and “infinite” when we describe people as having boundless energy and artists as taking infinite pains to complete their work. These descriptions aren’t true because people have to rest at some point and artists eventually stop creating. “There is nothing boundless but God and nothing infinite but God. God is self-existent and absolute; everything else is contingent and relative. . . . It is only God who knows no degrees.”

Take a few moments to consider how limitless God is and how this attribute influences your journey with Him. The possibilities are endless!
