Week One:
- September 1 – Please remember in prayer the sister of an NCF staff member who diagnosed with non-Hodgkins’s lymphoma. Pray for encouragement and protection of her health as well as for wisdom in pursuing treatment.
- September 2 – Many educators and nurses across the country are experiencing staff shortages in their work environments. Pray for God to provide strength and grounding in their work. Give them a clear understanding of the priorities for the day. We ask for God to move in the barriers experienced by staff.
- September 3 – We ask God to use all the avenues of NCF’s social media to reflect his truth well. Recently, the NCF blog described five ways followers of Jesus can grow in their spiritual lives. Pray for deeper and more courageous faith in nurses and students as a result.
- September 4 – Pray for our nurse group leaders as many are beginning to meet this month for the coming year. Pray for encouragement, fellowship, time in the Word, prayer, and support as they gather in person and virtually.
- September 5 – Pray for the student groups at Itawamba Community College (Mississippi) and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing (Indiana). Pray this fall that they will have what they need to be a thriving community on campus.
- September 6 – Pray for Christy Secor, NCF’s Spiritual Formation/Prayer Specialist, as she begins to prepare two messages for the Professional Healthcare Symposium and Student Refresh Retreat in Sioux Falls, South Dakota this November. May God provide wisdom and clarity in what he would have her share.
- September 7 – As NCF’s staff and teams continues to grow, we ask God to help us build a strong means of communication with each other to support our work and our vision to see students and nurses know and follow Jesus in nursing.
Week Two:
- September 8 – Pray for the planning and details of the NCF fall student retreat planning teams. We have three retreats scheduled this fall! The Abide and Overcome Retreat will meet in Durham, North Carolina on October 5th. Students in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula will meet on November 9th in Wausau, Wisconsin for the Refresh Retreat. And on November 15th – 16th, a Healthcare Symposium and Refresh Retreat is scheduled for Sioux Falls, South Dakota. May God use each of these retreats to draw students into a closer relationship with him.
- September 9 – Pray for wisdom, discernment, and good communication for NCF staff caring for aging parents. We ask for times of deep connection as those on our staff advocate and support their parents through the unique challenges their parents are facing. Pray also for encouragement and strength for our staff during this time.
- September 10 – God, be with each member of our NCF team – those who serve locally, regionally, and nationally. Give us your eyes for the future. Grant us the wisdom and discernment we need as we seek to see students and nurses know and follow Jesus in nursing.
- September 11 – Our Student Ministries teams have many meetings and upcoming communications planned with new and returning student leaders and faculty advisors. Pray for our NCF student groups to launch well this fall as our staff provides support, encouragement, and insight.
- September 12 – Pray for God’s leading in the search for a new Senior Editor for Journal of Christian Nursing. We ask God to bring those of his choosing and make it clear who he is calling to serve in this capacity.
- September 13 – Pray for nursing students across the country as they start their fall semester. We pray they will grow in their faith as they seek God in their challenges as well as their joys. We ask for endurance, faithfulness, and good choices with their time.
- September 14 – Pray for wisdom and insight for Jen Wojtysiak, NCF’s Associate National Director, and Christy Secor as they meet and develop ways to care more strategically for NCF’s faculty advisors and nurse group leaders.
Week Three:
- September 15 – Pray for the NCF staff teams as they work to create new resources and Bible studies for students, faculty, and nurses. May God give us wisdom, discernment, and creativity as we build these resources. We ask him to use these resources to build deeper relationship and intimacy with him.
- September 16 – Pray for the student groups at St. Scholastica (Minnesota) and Troy University (Alabama). Pray for their groups to thrive and grow as they come together in community.
- September 17 – We remember our faith community nurses as they work and serve their parishes, churches, and communities. Pray for support and good communication with others on their leadership team. Pray for wisdom, discernment, and connection as they provide insight and education to others.
- September 18 – Continue to pray for our mentoring program which focuses on recent graduates. Some mentees are new to nursing; others have completed post-graduate degrees. We ask God to use these conversations to draw both the mentor and the mentee into a closer relationship with him in both their faith and practice.
- September 19 – Please pray for encouragement for all NCF staff as they reach out to others to partner with them in ministry through their prayers and giving. We ask God to stir the hearts of partners to abundantly provide for all the needs and many facets of NCF’s ministry.
- September 20 – We ask God to teach us what it means to “endure.” May we keep Colossians 1:10-12 close to our hearts and minds. “We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy, thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything bright and beautiful that he has for us.” (The Message)
- September 21 – Pray for nurses as they explore the possibilities of starting a nurse group locally or virtually. We ask God to smooth any rough places and to remove any barriers in starting their groups. Give wisdom and insight as these nurses listen to the needs of other nurses and the call of the Holy Spirit.
Week Four:
- September 22 – We thank God for the community that is a part of our nurse groups. Pray for our nurse groups to continue to be safe places for students, faculty, and nurses. We ask God to use our Sunday night prayer group times to draw us into deeper intimacy with him.
- September 23 – Continue to pray for nurses around the country who are tired, weary, and facing staff shortages and a lack of resources in their work environments. Pray for those laid off or have seen their departments close. May we remember God’s presence in our lives and that we are not alone in our challenges. May NCF minister in the lives of others and be a support and encouragement in the faith and practice of nurses across the country.
- September 24 – Pray for the student group at the University of Louisville – Owensboro (Kentucky) to be rooted in faith and to grow in support and encouragement of one another as they meet together on campus.
- September 25 – Praise God for the diversity of our NCF team, from those working on campuses with students and faculty to those producing the Journal of Christian Nursing and developing events, both online and in person.
- September 26 – Pray for NCF student group faculty advisors across the country as they guide nursing students while still maintaining a full workload. We pray for God’s strength for them, for multiplied time, and wisdom in leading well. May the Holy Spirit go ahead of them preparing many students to participate in NCF.
- September 27 – Pray for Jane Hall (NCF’s former National Director) and Christy Secor as they plan the October 17th Journal Club webinar on Empathy: The Gift of Connecting. We ask God for his leadership and insight in the information presented and that the content would be helpful for all who participate.
- September 28 – Pray for our Journal of Christian Nursing editorial team as we regularly go through the process of editing manuscripts, creating artwork, and preparing another issue for publication.
Week Five:
- September 29 – Lord, we pray our new and existing nurse groups would feel connected and experience community as they meet.
- September 30 – The JCN editors praise God for an influx of articles for consideration in the Journal of Christian Nursing. Ask God to provide wisdom and time to properly evaluate each article and decide on suitability for JCN publication.
