Journal Club is February 3rd!

God's view of refugees and immigrants is an essential facet of cultural competence. As the global refugee crisis continues, nurses and nursing students need evidence-based knowledge along with compassionate understanding to genuinely care for displaced people. Simultaneously, we must confront our compassion fatigue and regain a God-focused perspective that protects us from burnout.

Join us Thursday, February 3rd to discuss the JCN article Simulating the Refugee Experience to Cultivate Cultural Competence and Sensitivity at 5:00 pm PT; 6:00 pm MT; 7:00 pm CT; 8:00 pm ET. 1.5 NCPD hours offered. Register here and the Zoom link will be sent to you.

What Are You Looking for in 2022?

Kathy Schoonover-Shoffner, PhD, RN • National Director, JCN Editor-in-Chief

The number one reason nurses, educators, and students give for being an NCF member is they are looking for Christian nursing resources. When asked for specifics, members say they want:

  • “To be surrounded by men and women of Christian faith and within the profession of nursing.”
  • “Guidance for specific nursing/education situations.”
  • “Resources to help myself and other nurses replace the anguish of the last two years with hope for a brighter tomorrow for their careers and for healthcare.”
  • “Christian worldview / approach to current issues.”
  • “Bible studies and Christian continuing education.”

How can you tap into community, real fellowship, study of God’s Word, places where you can ask questions, and content that offers encouragement and Christian perspective?

Explore these simple ways you can tap into Christian nursing resources:

  • Come to the weekly Sunday Night NCF Prayer time; sign up to get reminders.
  • Scan Journal of Christian Nursing to find a desired topic or word of encouragement. Many one-page columns offer wonderful gems! Discover the JCN Collections or use the Search feature.
  • Investigate NCF’s many downloadable Bible studies, available here. Check out special Members’ Only Bible studies here
  • Attend a national virtual event such as the Journal Club or a Tabletop Discussion. The topics are real and we spend time in sharing and prayer.
  • Join a Nurse Group to meet locally or virtually with a small group of Christian nurses. If you’re a student, find a Student Group.
  • Explore InterVarsity Press and use your 40% off code 40NCF21 for a great book.
  • Find rich discussions on multiple topics in our Christian Nurse Blog and sign up to receive blog notifications.

Overwhelmingly, you want Christian support. Our prayer for 2022 is that NCF can be a strong, deep community of Christians supporting one another in faith and practice. Know that we’re looking for more opportunities to offer what you need. Let us know how we can serve you.

Practicing as a Spiritually Healthy Nurse: February 15th

Our profession is breaking…nurses are leaving the work they felt called to do in unheard of numbers. Weariness and a sense of exhaustion is being felt in all parts of our being: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Nurses tell us they do not feel seen or heard. Many are experiencing a growing distance in their relationship with God. In these trying times, how do we begin to address our own spiritual needs? How do we support our colleagues from a more wholistic perspective? Come and experience renewed hope as we discover simple steps that can help us grow and develop who we are spiritually.

COVID Vaccination Quick Poll

Nurses and students around the country are struggling with COVID 19 vaccination--for themselves, their families, and their colleagues and patients. Many remain unvaccinated and some are not allowed to work. Take the JCN anonymous 15-second Quick Poll asking, What is your vaccination status and how is that impacting your work status? Click here and scroll down to the Quick Poll on the right side of the page. We’ll share the results!

Coming April 2nd - A Student Ministries Retreat

Last February, NCF held an online retreat to create space for students to slow down and take intentional time to listen and know peace in God. One student commented, “The Be Still retreat provided the reminder to put my faith in God and surrender all to him, and that I am never alone in my life journey.”

On April 2, 2022, the Kept: Finding Peace in Nursing School Retreat will focus on trusting God and developing lifelong spiritual disciplines to strengthen our identity in Christ.

Would you sponsor a nursing student to attend Kept at $25 or give $100 for a school/chapter to participate? Your partnership will provide retreat materials for each student attending. Give your tax-deductible gift here.
