Fall 2016 Prayer and Praise Guide

“You will keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on You,
because he trusts in You.”

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

LOOKING AHEAD

It is a new era for NCF! Kathy Schoonover-Shoffner became the NCF National Director on July 1, 2016. Ask God to give her wisdom, patience and discernment in her many new responsibilities and opportunities to advance the gospel in nursing.

As we launch another season of ministry, thank God for the nurses, students, and faculty advisors who serve as leaders of NCF groups and faithfully invite others into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Praise God for the team of nurse volunteers and NCF staff who work to prepare the Journal of Christian Nursing: Cathy, Esther, Amy, Kristina, Melodee, and Kathy. Ask God to guide their preparations for the next JCN which includes articles on pain and prayer, trauma informed care, glorifying God at work, and offering spiritual care.

Ask God to communicate his good pleasure and vision to our NCF staff team as we meet October 7 in Madison, WI. Pray for continued team unity and the resources to fulfill the mission God has for us.

GROWING STUDENT MINISTRY

Tim LinPraise God for a new Student Ministries Director! Timothy Lin has a strong history of equipping nursing students to follow Jesus unreservedly through his ministry as a Senior Area Director for InterVarsity. Pray for Tim as he steps into this strategic role of growing our ministry with nursing students nationally.

Many new small groups are starting this semester for nursing and pre-nursing students. Ask God to transform the lives of students and equip them for visionary leadership in their NCF group.

Thank God for the NCF student leaders and their faculty advisor, Joan, at Cleveland State University (OH). Pray for them as they start a Bible study and invite their friends to explore faith in Jesus Christ.

Pray for Rachel Phelps, staff volunteer, who loves investing in nursing students at Lenoir-Rhyne University (NC). Ask God to provide a common time when they can all meet together for Bible study.

Thank God for NCF staff Skip McDonald and her discipleship efforts with nurses and nursing students in Georgia. Pray that they will hear God’s Word and obediently respond to what he is saying to them.

An NCF Faculty Advisor requests prayer: “Please pray that God will show us different ways to reach our students and let them know that God cares for them and wants them to know him.”

Bonnie HannThank God for Bonnie Hann, NCF Campus Liaison, and pray for more NCF groups to provide a community where nursing students can explore what the Bible has to say about following Jesus in nursing and offer the love of Jesus to classmates and faculty.

BUILDING THE NCF NURSE NETWORK

Pray for Jane Hall in her new volunteer role of developing the NCF network of Christian nurses who can encourage each other’s faith and professional development.

NCF membership offers a vital connection between serving God and serving others in nursing. Pray for more nurses and students to join NCF and take advantage of the benefits of belonging to a ministry and a professional organization that provides a Christian voice in nursing.

Pray for nurses to capture a vision for God’s work around the world through the Global Missions Health Conference November 10-12 in Louisville, KY. Grace Tazelaar and Kamalini Kumar will lead workshops on missionary nursing.

Praise God for the opportunity to influence nursing through the symposium that Kathy Schoonover-Shoffner helped colead on “Transforming Moral Distress into Moral Resilience.” Ask God to help Kathy continue to be an influence for him as the symposium proceedings are published.
