January 2024 Prayer and Praise Calendar

Week One:

  •  January 1 – Pray for nursing students, faculty, and nurses as they seek direction and wisdom in knowing more fully what it means to follow Jesus in nursing.
  • January 2 – We ask for travel mercies for our Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF) staff and for all of InterVarsity’s staff who are traveling today to Florida for the InterVarsity 2024 Staff Conference. May God use this time to build relationships and provide clear insight into future ministry direction and opportunities.
  • January 3 – Pray for connection, fellowship, and encouragement for NCF staff as they’ll be meeting this evening at the InterVarsity Staff Conference.
  • January 4 – Today is a day of fasting and prayer for NCF and InterVarsity staff. We ask for the Lord’s intercession (allowing him to pray through us) and impartation (receiving his blessing and empowerment) as we focus on his call for ministry.
  • January 5 – Pray for God to use the gospel of Mark to speak to NCF and InterVarsity staff who are participating in InterVarsity’s 2024 Staff Conference. May its message bring life, encouragement, and renewed focus to our ministry.
  • January 6 – Pray for travel mercies and rest for our NCF staff as each will be traveling back home today from the 2024 InterVarsity Staff Conference. Pray for God’s Spirit to continue to grow seeds planted during the conference. We praise God for the privilege of working with nursing students, faculty, and nurses.

Week Two:

  • January 7 – We praise God for the outpouring of support from our prayer partners and financial donors with their end-of-the-year giving. Their prayers and gifts give us encouragement in the work of Nurses Christian Fellowship.
  • January 8 – Please pray for the 2nd annual Journal of Christian Nursing Writer's Contest as entries are starting to come in. We ask for this outreach to be a productive way for us to connect with new authors and increase potential columns for the journal.
  • January 9 – Jenny Choi, our Associate Director of Marketing, and her family have been dealing with a difficult situation with her father who is in hospice. The situation has been very dismal with her father developing a decubitus ulcer. God provided an affordable private-duty nurse who has provided better care. A new hospice organization has been hired that is more available, and attentive, and covers more medications and supply needs. Jenny is seeing the workload her mother was carrying decrease significantly and her father is now receiving the care that he needs. God is at work!
  • January 10 – We are thankful for open doors with students, faculty, and nurses and pray for new opportunities and conversations to provide support and encouragement through our student and nurse groups. We ask God to continue to provide wisdom and discernment as we follow his leading for what is his work.
  • January 11 – Madeline at UNC-Chapel Hill gathered about 10 junior-year nursing students for prayer and planning last semester. They will launch their group in January with the primary purpose of evangelism!! They are very excited and have a great vision for the group.
  • January 12 – Praise God for the successful launch of our NCF Podcast - Following Jesus in Nursing! We ask God to use this outreach in amazing ways in the lives of students, faculty, and nurses.
  • January 13 – The new Southeast Michigan chapter will have its first Bible study and prayer event on January 13th. Pray for a strong spirit of hospitality and joy in gathering together and for new folks to be able to attend the next meeting.

Week Three:

  • January 14 – Please remember to pray for the recruitment and planning for our online Student Ministry retreat and Student Ministry’s Abide and Flourish retreat in Pennsylvania.
  • January 15 – Pray that God continues to provide creative thinking and focus to the staff who produce NCF’s social media. Ask him to use this outlet to invite more nurses into NCF and to offer information and content that strengthen nurses’ work and faith.
  • January 16 – We remember the recent graduates of nursing programs across the country. We ask God to help them prioritize and plan for final studying as they prepare for the NCLEX.
  • January 17 – Celebrate and praise God for the ways Jesus works through nurses to effectively bring needed care and healing to patients throughout the world. Pray that nurses can continue to reach and benefit those in need through their daily work.
  • January 18 – We pray for the work and outreach of faith community nurses in their churches, parishes, and communities. May God bless and encourage them in the challenges and barriers they encounter.
  • January 19 – Pray for the leaders of the NCF Texas nurse group as they plan for the March 2024 Refresh retreat. May students, faculty, and nurses from across the country experience hope and renewal in their faith in Jesus Christ.
  • January 20 – Thank God for the gracious participation in the upcoming Journal Club of Santhiny Rajamohan and Kristin Helms, the two authors of the recent JCN article, "Praying the Psalms as a Nursing Resilience Intervention.” Both are subject matter experts in nursing (Santhiny) and biblical studies (Kristin) who will guide nurses attending the Journal Club (February 8) webinar to practice prayer from the Psalms as a key strategy to mitigate burnout.

Week Four:

  • January 21 – We thank God for the community that’s a part of our nurse groups. Pray for our nurse groups to continue to be safe places for students, faculty, and nurses. We lift up our Sunday night prayer group times and ask God to use this time to draw us into deeper intimacy with you, God.

  • January 23 – The JCN editorial staff praise God for the insight and expertise shared by three nurse interns serving with the team these past several months. Ask God to direct the growth and productivity of the Journal staff so the publication is increasingly valuable to nurses in integrating their faith with their nursing.
  • January 24 – Pray for wisdom for leaders across the globe and or preparations that still need completing for the Nurses Christian Fellowship International’s World Congress in Spain in June 2024.
  • January 25 – Duke and UNC-Wilmington have a number of senior leaders who graduated in December or will graduate in May. Pray for God to raise new students to be group leaders for a smooth leadership succession.

  • January 31 – Continue to pray for nurses around the country who are tired, weary, and facing staff shortages and a lack of resources in their work environments. May they be reminded of God’s presence in their lives and that they are not alone in the challenges they face. May NCF be used in their lives to be a support and encouragement in their faith and their practice.
