Mission Statement

Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christ-Centered academic community committed to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship and leadership.

Nursing education at IWU prepares each student to become a world-changing nurse. This is accomplished by drawing students into an integrated experience of intellectual challenge, professional growth, and leadership development.

Accreditation

  • Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • Indiana State Board of Registered Nursing
  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
  • National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF)

Program Distinctives

Nursing includes a strong academic, transcultural component that explores cultural diversity in healthcare. Our Pre-licensure BSN students are required to complete a Transcultural Nursing Practicum in a culture outside of their own. This is accomplished through individual placements locally and abroad, short-term travel classes offered by the school, or our Semester Abroad program in Zambia, Africa. A global experience is also a requirement for our BDNP and DNP students. As part of our Global Healthcare course, students have the opportunity to develop a comprehensive and engaged understanding of global health issues, social determinants of health, and problems associated with healthcare service provision in resource-constrained and marginalized communities.

The Fortune Simulation Lab features stellar, cutting-edge, state-of-the-art facilities. The lab is a "safe" place for students to practice their skills and critical thinking. Students in every clinical specialty (medical/surgical, maternal/child, leadership, mental health and critical care) spend time in the lab. VR (Virtual Reality) capabilities permit students to review clinical actions and reasoning.

A modernized curriculum prepares nurses for health care delivery in the 21st century. Faculty who will become mentors in the faith, integrating classroom learning with biblical truths for a Christ-centered environment that encourages spiritual growth and actively engage in clinical practice and research.

Mission/Service-Learning Opportunities

We offer semester abroad opportunities for our traditional undergraduate BSN students. Other various short-term transcultural learning teams go all over the world at all levels of nursing.
