The mission of the Yancey School of Nursing is to equip students as liberally educated nurses in a Christ-centered academic environment, with the values, core competencies, and core knowledge necessary to provide leadership and service for the nursing profession. A population-focused health care approach emphasizing health promotion and maintenance serves as the foundation to prepare graduates to function independently as clinical decision-makers in multiple health care settings and to pursue advanced professional education.

Accreditation

The baccalaureate degree in nursing at Kentucky Christian University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation). The master’s degree in nursing at Kentucky Christian University is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Kentucky Christian University’s prelicensure BSN program is approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing; the APRN program has developmental approval by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
Kentucky Christian University’s Family Nurse Practitioner program has met ANCC’s certification eligibility educational requirements. Students who complete this program have the educational preparation to sit for the ANCC certification examination in this role and population. Applicants must also meet any additional eligibility criteria in effect when they apply for certification.

As reflected in the mission statement, nursing at Kentucky Christian University offers the student the ability to earn a degree in a Christ-centered academic environment. Faculty are committed to the ministry of nursing and developing Christian nurses who are dedicated to excellence. Nursing provides a wonderful opportunity for ministry.
Yancey School of Nursing programs enjoy low faculty-to-student ratios. Students receive personal instruction from faculty and frequent advising. Faculty know students by name and support student success. Students are expected to develop personally, spiritually, and professionally during their time with the Yancey School of Nursing program.
The prelicensure BSN program is a traditional on-campus program. Students have the option of a double major in nursing and Bible. The typical schedule includes one year of prerequisite and general education courses with admission to Yancey School of Nursing in the sophomore year. A direct admission option is available for students who meet admission standards.
The online RN-BSN, MSN, and RN-MSN programs are designed for the working nurse, and students complete one class at a time with fast track options available in the RN-BSN and RN-MSN programs.
The MSN program prepares graduates to function as advanced practice nurses with a family nurse practitioner focus. Didactic courses are completed first with 528 practicum hours in the last two semesters, enabling students to be immersed in clinical practice. Students attend Knights at the Round Table (onsite attendance encouraged) prior to the clinical practicum to learn clinical skills and prepare for practice.
Mission/Service-Learning Opportunities
All Yancey School of Nursing students have opportunities to participate in service learning throughout their programs of study. Examples include community health events, the BSN research project, MSN Capstone project, and a toy drive for a local children's hospital. Short-term missions opportunities are available through university partnerships.
