During the upheaval resulting from the coronavirus outbreak, stories of how God is on the move in nursing students is an encouragement. For example, the NCF student nurses’ chapter at Lenoir-Rhyne University (LRU) in Hickory, North Carolina, has recognized God’s faithfulness time and time again. The NCF students began to pray once the coronavirus situation sent all classes and their group meetings online. They asked God about how they might show their concern for the local Hickory community.
The students’ prayers led them to write letters to residents at a local nursing home. The students decided to open the letter writing project to all the nursing students in their school. From this project, NCF has seen new faces join their weekly Zoom group meeting.
“God is faithful,” reported Rachel Phelps, RN, MSN, CNE®, a nursing instructor at LRU and an NCF Campus Minister. “Our prayer is that students will find God to be the same God we serve on mountaintop experiences as well as in the uncertain days we currently find ourselves living in.”
Here’s more evidence of God’s presence on campuses across the nation!
- Over the past two years at Rowen College in New Jersey, faculty advisors have seen two to four students come to know Jesus in their NCF student group. There is good soil in the nursing department.
- Another college’s NCF chapter was able to bring in 'new believers' and people beginning a reconnection with God! The faculty advisor said, “It’s been so beautiful to see eyes opened to the joy of Jesus!”
- Observations of other faculty advisors of student groups:
”I have seen students show God's love to fellow nursing students, to all their peers, and through community outreach.”
“Our group has more than doubled in size since last year and we had a lot of sweet times of Bible study, prayer, and fellowship.”
Despite the changes and challenges that students and their NCF groups have faced, students and faculty advisors are persisting in trusting that God has good for them and their campuses as they pursue Him.
Jen Wojtysiak, NCF’s Student Ministries Director, admits, “We don’t know what the fall will look like for campus ministry, but we do know that the Lord is already there and not surprised by any changes that are coming. Now, more than ever, having a community of support for nursing students to grow in relationship with one another, the Lord, and reach others with the love of Jesus as a sustaining presence during nursing school and beyond is crucial!”
Details about how to find or start a student group are on the NCF website.
