Week One:
- October 1 – Pray for a good turnout and connection for our NCF nurse group leaders as we meet this evening. We’ll also be meeting on October 3. We ask God to use this time to build our leaders as they support and encourage students, faculty, and nurses in their groups.
- October 2 – We lift up all nurses as well as other members of the rescue/healthcare team serving in areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. We pray for endurance and strength for them as they face long hours, little sleep, heartaches, and the loss of people, property, and their community.
- October 3 – Pray for Jane Hall, former director of NCF, as she returns home today from rehab after a bad fall where she sustained fractures to her pelvis. The pain has been intense. Pray for the healing of these fractures, relief from the pain, and increased mobility and strength. Pray also for encouragement during the long healing process.
- October 4 – We praise God for our NCF mentors and the recent graduates they are meeting and beginning to form relationships with. We ask God to cover this time and for truth, connection, encouragement, and hope in Jesus Christ to be a part of their conversations.
- October 5 – We are excited about NCF’s first fall Student Retreat, “Abide and Overcome." This retreat is being held today in Durham, North Carolina. Pray for the speakers, students, nurses, and breakout sessions. Pray this will be a time to take in the rest, peace, and presence of Jesus as we enjoy community together.
Week Two:
- October 6 – Pray for God’s leading in the search for a new Senior Editor for the Journal of Christian Nursing. We ask God to bring those of his choosing and make it clear who he is calling to serve in this capacity.
- October 7 – Pray for Colleen Christenson, NCF’s Nurse Staff Minister, as she travels to see family in October. We ask for protection, travel mercies, and open doors to share about Jesus.
- October 8 – We remember our faith community nurses as they work and serve their parishes, churches, and communities. Pray for support and good communication with others on their leadership team. Pray for wisdom, discernment, and connection as they provide insight and education to others.
- October 9 – Continue to pray for nurses around the country who are tired, weary, and facing staff shortages and a lack of resources in their work environments. Pray for those laid off or who have seen their departments close. May we remember God’s presence in our lives and that we are not alone in our challenges. May NCF minister in the lives of others and be a support and encouragement in the faith and practice of nurses across the country.
- October 10 – Pray for good health in our NCF nurse groups. Pray for encouragement, fellowship, time in the Word, prayer, and support as they gather in person and virtually.
- October 11 – Pray for NCF student group faculty advisors across the country as they guide nursing students while maintaining a full workload. We pray for God’s strength for them, for multiplied time, and wisdom in leading well. May the Holy Spirit go ahead of them preparing many students to participate in NCF.
- October 12 – Pray for the Journal of Christian Nursing editorial staff as they evaluate and prepare articles. Ask God to give supernatural insight as we review articles before acceptance and then edit articles for publication.
Week Three:
- October 13 – We thank God for the community that is a part of our nurse groups. Pray for our nurse groups to continue to be safe places for students, faculty, and nurses. We ask God to use our Sunday night prayer group times to draw us into deeper intimacy with him.
- October 14 – Praise God for the diversity of our NCF team, from those working on campuses with students and faculty to those producing the Journal of Christian Nursing and developing events, both online and in person.
- October 15 – Pray for Christy Secor, NCF’s Spiritual Formation/Prayer Specialist, as she completes two messages for the Professional Healthcare Symposium and Student Refresh Retreat in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in November. May God provide wisdom and clarity in what he would have her share.
- October 16 – Our marketing team is always thinking months ahead. We ask for wisdom, creativity, and insight as we look at advertising and materials to share over Christmas and for National Nurses Month.
- October 17 – Ask God to use Journal of Christian Nursing to support students, nurses, and educators around the world, and to bring the good news of Christ to nursing.
- October 18 – Thank God for bringing in what is needed for NCF ministry. Ask him to lead those he is calling to support this work to be obedient in prayer and financial giving.
- October 19 – Pray for Lara Kaiser, NCF’s Student Ministries Associate Director, and Kathy Schoonover-Shoffner, NCF’s National Director, as they travel to Michigan to visit with nursing programs in the state. We ask for God’s protection and travel mercies during their travel and for opportunities to connect with faculty and students. Pray for student groups to be established and for existing groups to be strengthened and encouraged.
Week Four:
- October 20 – Many educators and nurses across the country continue to experience staff shortages in their work environments. Pray for God to provide strength and grounding in their work. Give them a clear understanding of the priorities for the day. We ask for God to move in the barriers experienced by staff.
- October 21 – Pray for the planning and details of the two remaining NCF fall student retreats. Students in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula will meet on November 9th in Wausau, Wisconsin for the Refresh Retreat. And on November 15th – 16th, a Healthcare Symposium and Refresh Retreat is scheduled for Sioux Falls, South Dakota. May God use each of these retreats to draw students into a closer relationship with him.
- October 22 – Pray for NCF’s professional members as they serve in Jesus’ name. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring more students and nurses to NCF and grow our professional membership numbers.
- October 23 – Pray for the second fall Saline Process™ Witness Training that begins today. We ask God to use this training to provide insight, tools, and confidence to students and nurses who want to know how to provide spiritual care and be salt and light in the workplace using the principles of sensitivity, permission, and respect. Pray for the team’s trainers: Christy Secor (NCF’s Spiritual Formation/Prayer Specialist), Carol Rowley (Nurses Christian Fellowship International Global Saline Coordinator), Donna Kleister (Faith Community Nurse), and Kamalini Kumar (Chair of the Board of Directors, Nurses Christian Fellowship International).
- October 24 – God, be with each member of our NCF team – those who serve locally, regionally, and nationally. Give us your eyes for the future. Grant us the wisdom and discernment we need as we seek to see students and nurses know and follow Jesus in nursing.
- October 25 – Pray for the Lord to keep NCF staff physically healthy and emotionally recharged.
- October 26 – Pray for Lara Kaiser, NCF’s Student Ministries Associate Director, who coordinates the NCF podcast. We ask God to be in all the logistics and details of recording, editing, publishing, as well as advertising.
