Engage More Deeply with Your Faith

I remember a time in college that I questioned my faith. Was God real? Did my faith matter? Where was God in the hard times in my life? I was at a retreat for students and left during the worship. I needed to have a heart-to-heart with God and figure this out. As I prayed for God to reveal himself to me and increase my faith at that moment, my InterVarsity staff worker approached me. He sat with me, listened to me, answered my questions, and cared for me as a real-life representation of God’s hands and feet.

As a nurse or nursing student, you uniquely represent God’s caregiver nature. He cares for us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You care for your patients in the same way. You care for their bodies, hearts, and souls each time you interact with them. So how do you grow in your understanding of your caregiver nature? A great place to start is the Bible. We grow in our knowledge, learning, and relationship with God through Bible study. In turn, we better know ourselves by seeing ourselves and others as God sees us.

NCF wants to gift you a beautiful six-part Bible study on a History of Faith for Nursing to celebrate all your caregiver beauty this year for National Nurses Month. Each page of this Bible study is beautifully illustrated with hand-designed graphics to engage your heart and mind as you engage with the 11th chapter in the New Testament book of Hebrews, a book written for everyone wrestling with faith, making it clear that faith is crucial to our relationship with Jesus Christ.

The examples in Hebrews 11 help create a solid foundation for answering questions of faith:

  • How, as followers of Jesus, do we continue to stay faithful?
  • How do we persist in faith when we’re discouraged?
  • Is faith a part of our practice as students, nurses, and educators?

Applying this knowledge about faith motivates us to ''hold fast'' to the gospel and believe Jesus wants a relationship with us, despite hardships.

This study uniquely connects faith and nursing in a way that will allow God to shape you and your practice more into his likeness and nature—working through application questions like these:

  • Where have you stepped out in faith, perhaps to go to nursing school or into a nursing role?
  • How does your experience of faith and relationship with God affect your relationship with your patients? With your colleagues?

This is a Bible study to be treasured and to come back to again and again.
