Don’t Let Fall Sneak Up On You!
Again, truly, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. - Matthew 18:19-20
Summer is a great time to let go of schedules and enjoy a slower pace. But it will help your leadership team to keep some things in mind so that fall will catch you on track.
Pray
I am sure you pray frequently for your groups, but try a scheduled time during the summer. Prayer walks, prayer meetings, or a scheduled daily time allow God to pour all he has for you and your group into you. Then you can base your plans for the next year on God’s direction for your group. This is an excellent time for the BHAG prayer we discussed last month; find that here. Invite other faculty or students to join you!
Plan
My church had a worship and prayer night outside with hotdogs and a bonfire. For me, it was the first summer bonfire after an exceptionally long, snowy winter. I was not the only one craving the casual community that somehow only happens in a circle of lawn chairs around a fire. But it was windy. And it turned out we only had two matches. Eventually, we located more matches and created a human wind barrier to get the fire blazing. How much extra effort could we have saved if we had planned better before that night? This is why we recommend planning for next year before the semester begins. Thinking through what the year will look like and having resources ready will take off pressure later. Think of it as having a cozy fire ready to welcome the community!
