Let’s Pray Even BIGGER!
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. -Colossians 4:2 NIV
Most prayer requests that our national NCF team receives from student chapters are for growth. We love this! It shows your heart to help more nursing students know and follow Jesus! But what if we pray even bigger? What if we don’t stop at an idea of how many we think is “doable”?
This is where BHAG comes in. Funny name (pronounced Be Hag) for a powerful tool and way to open our expectations so that we are not limiting God. BHAG stands for Big Hairy Audacious Goal– in other words, something that only God would be able to pull off. It is a goal to be prayed for, not done. As you are planning and goal setting for the next year, plan something that your group can work toward, like a 20% attendance increase, but then also prayerfully consider a number that would be wildly exciting to see (like 20% of the whole nursing school attending!) and have your whole group pray for God to knock your socks off! Invite prayer partners and include us by sending an email to: ncf@intervarsity.org.
Name it! Another way to be bigger and bolder in prayer is to be specific. We all have someone who we would like to have an opportunity to invite to an NCF meeting or someone you have invited, but it hasn’t worked out for them to come. Ask each member of your group to select two people that God has put on their hearts and pray for them specifically to check out a meeting or two.
Be intentional! It happens to us all; we say we will pray for something, but it slips to the back burner. As a group, pick a specific time or day; you might even want to set an alarm to feel like you are praying together and can help each other be accountable.
