Calls to Faith

As a student, I was encouraged to come to lunch and learn how to invite someone into a relationship with Jesus. I went to the training but did not intend to share my faith. God had a different plan! After the training, I conversed with a friend, and I knew I was supposed to invite her to consider Jesus. I stumbled through the invitation, and SHE SAID YES! God had been at work in her life way beyond me. NCF’s vision is to see students and nurses know and follow Jesus in nursing. Our mission is to uniquely transform the nursing profession through: biblically grounded communities, effective faith-sharing, and comprehensive resources that support integrated whole-person care for and by the nurse. Starting this fall, we are incorporating a call to faith in EVERY NCF Bible study.

Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, giving light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”. Effective faith sharing is living out and inviting others to know Jesus. So often, we do not know who in our NCF groups might respond to Jesus. It can be intimidating to make the invitation, but just like my experience, God is at work far beyond what we know. For additional help, check out Intervarsity’s call to faith resources.

Your Need for Community

You are invited to join the NCF Twin Cities professional group and our own Jen Wojtysiak on Tuesday, October 18, 7:00 - 8:30 pm CST, the first of three NCF Conversations on our vision. Experience community as we look into Scripture and share stories. NCPD is offered for nurses in Minnesota. Register here.

Your Voices: Kaithlyn Tesorero, co-leader of our UIC IV Filipinos in Healthcare small group

During the height of the pandemic, our Filipinos in Healthcare small group often discussed the burnout of healthcare professionals. My co-leader Dylan and I chose to lead Bible studies that centered around God’s rest and renewal that our healthcare workers longed for, while we failed to recognize our burnout as healthcare college students during the pandemic. Our members were coming to small group exhausted from their demanding coursework yet remaining faithful to the space we created. As their small group leaders, we felt blessed by their commitment to attending Bible study, and we wanted to maintain our small group as a restful space for our members to meet with God. This ultimately led us to emphasize practicing sabbath rest through God’s invitation to find rest in Him. Since then, our small group has dedicated one week each month to celebrate Jesus’ gift of rest through small group outings and dinners by taking a break from our structured Bible study. Honoring God’s sabbath rest each month allows us to be fulfilled by the Spirit and find restoration through our God-given community so that we may find true rest and renewal in Him.“ Click here for a helpful article on Sabbath!
