How Hope is an Anchor

Katharine Provost, BS, MA • NCF National Campus Staff Minister

I don’t know about you, but as I compare the beginning of 2021 with 2020, it carries a very different feel. In January 2020, I was preparing for my dream vacation and doing well in my health goals, but I can’t imagine what the next vacation will look like and health goals have gone out the window. Things change, plans get cancelled, we hardly know what the next few weeks will hold. I heard a radio personality say that this year people seem to be missing a desire to hope.

Many of us have given up trying to plan and dream because we just can’t imagine what the future will look like. But isn’t that exactly what we are told about faith in Hebrews 11:1? “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

How do we put hope in something we do not see or understand? Read more on the NCF Blog.

Spiritual Care Resources

How do you care for the spiritual needs of your patients? Good spiritual care requires expertise and ongoing development and learning. Here are spiritual care resources, both free and for purchase, to help nurses and students care spiritually for patients and families.

Weekly Prayer Night

Christy Secor, DNP, RN, CDWF · NCF Professional Ministries Director

Nurses are sharing with NCF the challenges they are facing -- personally and professionally. Daily life challenges such as encouraging their kids in hybrid/online learning environments, supporting the mental health of their teenagers, caring for sick family members, or grieving the death of loved ones. All this while coping with the ongoing challenges of providing nursing care, teaching nursing students, or serving as a faith community nurse through a pandemic. Sometimes you just don’t know where you’ll find the strength. Sometimes you just don’t know how or what to pray anymore.

If you could use some support or encouragement in your own life, we invite you to be a part of our Sunday evening times for prayer. No pressure. No requirements. Come when you can. Come as you are. Experience what it means to be encouraged in your faith and your practice.

Times: Each Sunday for an hour beginning at 7 pm Eastern / 6 pm Central / 5 pm Mountain / 4 pm Pacific. Email and we’ll send you the Zoom link. We’d love to have you join us.
