May 2020: Celebrating Nurses Everywhere!

This May Nurses Christian Fellowship will be celebrating nurses for the entire month of May as part of the ANA/WHO Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

Join the Celebration!

  • Is there a nurse who has been a special encouragement to you either personally or professionally? NCF is creating an online “Wall of Honor” as a way for you to thank other nurses who have made a difference in your practice. You’ll also receive a certificate you can download and present to that special nurse in your life. Please complete the webform here. Cost: $10 per tribute with checks made payable to Nurses Christian Fellowship. Our tribute page will go live May 1st.

  • During National Nurses Week (May 6th - 12th), we’ll be offering a 25% discount on the cost of membership for new and renewing members. More information will be coming out soon!

    • Remember that as nurse group leaders, you receive a 43% discount towards the cost of your membership. Use the discount code NCFNL43 when you join or renew. If you are facing financial challenges and are not able to join or renew your membership, please let me know. I’ll be glad to provide a gift membership.

  • Encouraging quotes from Florence Nightingale that reflect our faith and practice will be provided each week on social media. You can share these on Facebook and Instagram.

  • Weekly Bible studies focusing on the 4 themes designated by the ANA

    • Week 1: SELF CARE May 1–9

    • Week 2: RECOGNITION MAY 10–16

Join Our Next Nurse Group Leader Discussion

Our next professional nurse group leader discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 7 pm CST. It’s an opportunity for us to gather, encourage, and learn from one another.  Prayer needs can be shared and we can also work through barriers you may be experiencing with your groups. During our next meeting, we’ll also look at ways you can reach your groups online using Zoom or Facebook.

You’ll find the Zoom link and information below -- you can join us online or by phone:

We Want to Pray for You!

Know that we are here to support you and to pray for you and your group in all you face -- both personally and professionally. I consider prayer to be one of our greatest privileges. I would love to be able to pray more specifically for each of you.

Submit a request any time to our NCF prayer team. Please let me know if you or other members of your group would like to be a part of this team. Prayer requests are kept anonymous and confidential.

Are You Meeting Online?

If your nurse group is meeting online, I’d love to be a part of the meeting if I can. Please include me in your invite and I’ll join if I can.

And a BIG “THANK YOU” to each of you who include me on your meeting invites and communication. I add your face-to-face meetings into my prayer calendar so I can pray for you as you gather together. Knowing the needs of your group helps me to pray more specifically for each of you.

NEW Bible Studies

We have been blessed with a number of new Bible Studies that you can use personally and with your groups. You’ll find:

Meet Our NCF Nurse Group in IL: Collaboration of Licensed Nurses, Inc.

Tell us about your group. Where are you located and what’s the focus of your meetings?

Collaboration of Licensed Nurses, Incorporated, known as CLN, Inc., is an Illinois chapter of NCF that focuses on the soft skill enhancement and Spiritual growth of practicing nurses across the state. The mission of CLN, Inc. is to merge the professional and Spiritual lives of licensed nurses. Meetings are every other month in the even months of the year.

In the months where meetings are held, there are two scheduled options for members to attend: one on the third Wednesday and the other on the third Saturday. A virtual training is featured at each session. Illinois nurses need CEs for license renewal. CLN, Inc. will eventually meet this requirement for its membership. The format of the meetings is designed to meet that particular requirement for becoming a CE sponsor. There are other requirements that will be met according to God's plan for this chapter.  The CLN, Inc guiding scripture is:

God is able to do much more than we ask or think through His power working in us. May we see His shining-greatness in the church. May all people in all time honor Christ Jesus. Let it be so.

Ephesians 3:20-21 New Life Version (NLV)

  •  What ways have you used to draw in other nurses to your group?

When Jesus began his ministry he first engaged the Jewish population, then the Gentiles. Following the ministry of Jesus, we are working with NCF to engage all current Illinois members with this Illinois chapter. They are already aware of their calling since it prompted them to join NCF. CLN, Inc. builds from NCF membership since the two are connected. CLN, Inc. encourages those who attend bi-monthly meetings to invite their fellow nurses to a meeting. Learning from Abraham and Sarah, CLN, Inc. will not attempt to increase membership by our own plan. We will wait on God.

  • What insights would you have for other nurse group leaders as they consider going virtual with their meetings?

Using a virtual platform can help extend the group's reach. This taps into behaviors that are practiced by most people daily who use social media. CLN, Inc. will soon have a presence on Facebook as well as LinkedIn. The chapter website, www.clninc.net, and email, clninc01gmail.com, also support virtual engagement for a membership of professionals working in an industry that must be staffed 24 hours a day seven days a week. Virtual connections can be accommodating for busy professionals.

  • What are the challenges you’re facing with your group? We’d love to pray more specifically for your group.

Time is a challenge for any busy professional and is a challenge for CLN, Inc. Nursing is a demanding profession. Nurses put others' needs before their own. The same is true about their Spiritual growth and skill enhancement. They need to maintain both, but the demands of being a hardworking dedicated nurse, makes it challenging to invest time in their needs and increase membership. The Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. We pray for God to instill the desire in Illinois nurses to seek Him and join CLN, Inc.

Thank you, Nell Griffin and Renee Stepney, for your leadership and vision.

Know that your support, encouragement, prayer, and investment into the lives of nurses is needed, appreciated, and noticed. I want to be a support to you any way that I can. I am so very grateful to be able to partner with you in this important work.

Blessings to each of you as you continue to follow Him!

In Christ,

Interim Director / Professional Ministries Director, Nurses Christian Fellowship/USA
