As Christians, how do we live out the Gospel through healthcare among the poor? For Brittany Long, a nurse in Alabama, this wasn't just a question to ponder in church on Sunday.
Last May she met NCF staff Skip McDonald and Renee Lick in Nashville at the CCHF conference (Christian Community Health Fellowship) that focused on the need for Christian clinics in under-resourced communities. Brittany was challenged by the testimonies of nurses, physicians, dentists and administrators who had passed up good-paying jobs to give healthcare to those often forgotten and underserved.
Brittany returned home inspired and started an NCF group for nurses in her area. Last month they sponsored a Health Fair for those who lack medical resources. Volunteers hosted stations to educate visitors about basic hygiene, stroke symptoms, breast cancer, heatstroke/frostbite and give eye exams and tests for blood pressure and glucose levels. More than 50 people received prayer and two accepted Christ!
We praise God for Brittany and thousands of other nurses who reflect the love of Jesus by serving the underserved in their communities.
