Happy Nurses Week! As we consider this year’s theme of balance, I want to encourage you to take time to care for yourself in body, mind and spirit. I’m sharing with you a blog I was asked to write for Lippincott's NursingCenter, Are You Soaring Spiritually? Check out the 10 ideas for spiritual self-care that I included in my article, as well as a variety of other great articles provided by NursingCenter.com. ~by Kathy Schoonover-Shoffner, PhD, RN
If we are to fulfill our nursing roles as compassionate and competent caregivers, it is essential that we first care for ourselves. What insight does the Bible offer to meet this challenge? See how Jesus addresses this theme in a Bible discussion on Luke 10:25-28. We encourage you to reflect on this passage in your devotional time this week.

As an NCF member, you are the recipient of an award-winning journal! For the third year in a row, Journal of Christian Nursing made a very impressive showing in the annual awards competition for the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASPHE). We strive to honor God in all we do and these awards are an affirmation among our peers in healthcare publishing. We are honored by this recognition, and thankful that JCN will continue to present solid biblical, clinical, and professional content. Read more.
Starting New NCF Groups
One of my greatest joys is helping new NCF ministries get started on campus. Typically, this involves an interested student or nurse educator contacting us and asking about the process of starting an NCF student chapter. We follow up on every inquiry and offer coaching and resources as they take the next steps forward. We have even written a step-by-step guide called Start NCF because, ultimately, we want to see witnessing communities established at every nursing school!
This spring, we had the privilege of walking with nursing students/educators on 10 different campuses who are starting an NCF chapter! Some of them have officially launched, while others are still in initial phases of planning and praying. One new chapter’s faculty advisor shared with us: “Initiating an NCF chapter gives the students a forum to discuss the challenges of going through the nursing program and how they can use their faith to help them through those challenges. NCF provides hope and a support system.”
Praise God for these new NCF student ministries! Will you pray that the Lord will expand our ministry to even more campuses next year?
