Almost two years ago, a team of nurses from Canada, USA, and Haiti began praying, planning, and promoting a Nurses Christian Fellowship International conference for the Caribbean and North America Region (NCFI CANA) -Infusing Hope in Nursing: A Christian Perspective. We anticipated God working among us. Sadly, on May 30 we cancelled the conference due to low registrations. What happened? Isaiah 55:8-9 relays:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,
declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I’ve followed Jesus long enough to realize the profound truth of this passage. But I don’t think we missed God. I believe we heard God’s longing to bring nurses together to learn from His Word, from wise teachers, to be encouraged and blessed by each other and the Holy Spirit – and we responded! Isaiah 55:10-11 continues, As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
What is God’s purpose in not bringing about this conference? What is the seed we are to be sowing? The bread he wants to feed nurses? How does he want to minister to nurses? To NCF members? To YOU? Our sincerest prayer is that God will use NCF to make himself known to you in deeper ways.
⇒Pray that God will minister to nurses who registered for the NCFI CANA conference, and show NCF how he wants to teach and love nurses.
On June 8, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, our JCN publisher, accidentally sent out the electronic Table of Content email for the July/September issue with advertisements promoting the NCFI CANA Infusing Hope in Nursing conference. As relayed above, the conference is cancelled.

What unites us as Christians in nursing? Like the nurses, students and educators we talk to, we share a common purpose: to serve God by loving and caring for people through nursing. And together, we can provide a Christ-centered, professional voice in nursing. Our NCF staff team is joyfully dedicated to helping students and nurses to fulfill this purpose and be a Christ-like influence in nursing. As a non-profit professional organization and ministry, NCF depends on contributions to fund our staff team, and we are stretched thin. Please make a financial contributionbefore June 30 to support the future of NCF. Thank you!
--Timothy Lin, MA, Student Ministries Director
As we wrap up this academic year, we praise God for the nursing student ministries on 108 campuses across the U.S.! We witnessed 39 nursing student decisions to follow Jesus--these students' lives are eternally changed because of what God did through NCF!
During the summer, NCF student ministries will be planning and preparing for the fall semester. We will develop new resources for student leaders to reach out to their classmates with the gospel. We will connect with new and returning student leaders to coach them in planning for their chapter. And we will seek out NCF members, alumni, and community partners to explore planting opportunities on campuses near where they live.
Would you please pray for us as we enter this season of planning and prayer? I can't wait to see how God will use this summer to lay the groundwork for future ministry!
⇒Pray for student ministry and development of new resources to bring Jesus to nursing students and educators.
WHAT IS CHRISTIAN CARING?
As Christian nurses, we sometimes get asked about the idea of Christian caring. Is Christian caring different from what we think of as caring in nursing? Read the article coming to your doorstep in the July/September JCN by Shirlene Newbanks, Linda Rieg, and Beverly Schaefer, “What is Caring in Nursing? Sorting Out Christian and Humanistic Perspectives.” Also check out the research Linda Rieg, Shirlene Newbanks, and Rose Sprunger conducted, “Caring From a Christian Worldview: Exploring Nurses’ Source of Caring, Faith Practices, and View of Nursing.”

URBANA 18 is Coming!
Urbana, InterVarsity’s triennial missions conference, will be held December 27-31, 2018 in St. Louis, MO. Urbana is a life-changing experience for college students seeking to discern their place in God’s global mission. Let nursing students know about Urbana, and apply for scholarship support from NCF.
