Charting the Way

A monthly newsletter exclusively for NCF members

by Kathy Schoonover-Shoffner, National Director and JCN Editor-in-Chief

What do you have planned for 2018? It will be a busy year for me, assisting in care of my mom, traveling, speaking at conferences, continuing to lead the NCF and JCN teams. I wonder (with a little anxiety), what challenges will arise? What does 2018 have in store… for me, my family, for NCF? When I am anxious, I am greatly reassured by Romans 8:28 (ESV):

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

The good isn’t necessarily what I want; it is God’s plan to conform me into the image of Christ (v. 29), to bring me into closer fellowship with him, to bear kingdom fruit. God has always been working out his good for me, starting before creation until he saved me in Christ, and he will continue until Jesus returns or I go to be with him (v. 30).

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?...

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?... (v. 31-38).

The answer is: nothing can separate us from God’s love (v. 38). That is God’s magnificent plan for 2018!

Focus on Jesus this year, realizing we are more than conquerors through him who loved us (v. 37).

by Timothy Lin, MA, Student Ministries Director

During the fall 2017 semester, NCF student chapters saw 45 students make decisions to follow Jesus! One of these students, Clarissa, grew up with no religious background. In nursing school, Clarissa’s friends invited her to their weekly NCF Bible study. As she attended, Clarissa became more and more intrigued. At their chapter's fall retreat, she decided to say yes to Jesus! Now, Clarissa is being actively discipled by other members of her NCF chapter to help her grow in her newfound faith.

I love stories like Clarissa's! This reminds me that a critical part of NCF student ministry is reaching those who do not know Jesus on campus. Like "sheep without a shepherd" (Mark 6:34), many nursing students have no idea there is a Good Shepherd to care for them.

As we begin a new semester of ministry, pray that Jesus will use our NCF chapter members to reach their non-Christian friends. Ask our Good Shepherd to draw many more students, like Clarissa, to him.

new yearLOOKING AHEAD TO 2018

As an NCF member, you are part of a community of nurses who respond to God’s love by bringing His hope and healing to patients and coworkers. Nursing is demanding, and our mission is to encourage you on the journey. We need each other. As we look ahead to 2018, we ask for your help. We invite you to partner in what God is doing through NCF so we can reach more nurses and students this year with the wholeness, or shalom, that Jesus offers. Please consider becoming a donor, in addition to being a member. Your investment in NCF ministry will change lives this year! Please give today!
