When nurses meet together and invite God into their discussions about nursing, they experience Jesus' gift of Christian community. Just as coals in a fire smolder when separated, nurses who are isolated can be more easily discouraged about their calling to nursing and burned out as caregivers.
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them" (Matthew 18:20). Christ's presence provides encouragement for us to grow in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world.
It is a privilege to know God through Jesus Christ and receive his love, forgiveness, hope and sense of purpose in life. As Christian nurses, we have the honor of making Christ known through our actions and words -- among our colleagues, patients, clients and their families.
